MRWED Training and Assessment

Recognition (RPL)

Overview

Under competency based training, the focus is with learners demonstrating competency in the specified areas. Competency can be demonstrated by the physical ‘doing’ and/or by evidence and documentation that documents the ‘doing’. Evidence is anything that supports a claim by the candidate that they are competent or a demonstration of competence based on a recognised standard, learning outcome and/or performance under certain conditions.

Before submitting a recognition (RPL) application to MRWED please review the guidelines and instructions obtained in the RPL Kit.

There are three very important things you should know:

  • If you are seeking Recognition and intend participating in an upcoming face-to-face course then you should submit your RPL evidence at least five (5) working days prior to the commencement of that course.
  • When submitting your Recognition application, be aware that your submission and any inclusions cannot be returned to you or copied for you. Consequently, please send verified copies of originals rather than any original documents.
  • It is also recommended that you photocopy your entire submission before mailing it to us in case it is not received by MRWED.

Recognition is available for all units of competency in the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and Diploma of Training and Assessment. The elements of competency of each unit provide the Recognition benchmarks. Upon receiving a submission a MRWED assessor will assess the submitted evidence against elements and performance criteria of the units of competency. If there is sufficient evidence in the application and supporting documentation, no further assessment may be necessary. If further assessment is required, it may take any practical form consistent with the assessment criteria for the claimed competencies and the principles of validity, reliability, flexibility and fairness. The form of assessment may be negotiated with the client and may consist of interview, written assignment, workplace assessment, exam, or other method, and will be conducted by a qualified assessor or assessment panel. MRWED has adopted streamlined user-friendly Recognition procedures. In summary, there are 5 steps in the MRWED Recognition procedure.

Step 1: Enrolment

There is no fee payable at the time of submitting a Recognition application to MRWED. Simply complete and submit the MRWED Enrolment Form and do not worry about payment at this stage. In case your Recognition application is unsuccessful you should indicate any course dates you would prefer to attend so that a place can be set aside for you if required.

Step 2: Review the RPL Kit

Upon receiving your enrolment the MRWED staff will send you the MRWED RPL Kit. This user-friendly document provides guidance to you about what items will help you secure Recognition. Look down the list and start collecting your evidence for submission.

Step 3: Submit your Evidence and Completed RPL Kit

After you have collected all your evidence submit it to MRWED at PO Box 325, Caboolture QLD 4510. Do NOT send any originals as nothing in your submission can be returned to you. Tick off the items you have enclosed on your RPL Kit and return your completed RPL Kit in the same envelope as the evidence. It is a clever idea to photocopy everything before you mail it in case the submission doesn't make it to MRWED.

Step 4: Prepare Any Additional Submissions (only if required)

After reviewing the evidence MRWED will promptly advise you of the assessment result. A MRWED staff member will advise unsuccessful candidates of reasons for non-recognition and steps they can take, including remedial training and appeal mechanisms. If additional evidence would enable a candidate to receive Recognition for one or more of the Units of Competency the MRWED staff will provide specific advice about what is required and give the applicant a chance to make an additional submission at no extra charge.

Step 5: Make Payment and Complete your Course

After the Recognition process has been completed, there are three possibilities:

  • If you receive no recognition for one or more Competency Fields then you have the option of switching your enrolment from Recognition to your preferred training and assessment option. No fee is incurred for the unsuccessful Recognition application.
  • If you receive recognition for one or more Units of Competency within a Competency Field then you will be exempt from requiring to complete further assessments relating exclusively to those Units of Competency. You will however need to complete the training and/or assessments relating to the other Units of Competency within that Competency Field. Your only cost will be the price for completing each Competency Field and no additional fee is incurred for the Recognition assessment.
  • If you receive recognition for all of one or more Competency Fields then you will be invoiced the published Recognition fees and no further training and assessment is required for each of those Competency Fields.

Submitting a Recognition application to MRWED can potentially save experienced trainers and assessors a substantial amount of time and money. If you receive full Recognition then the only cost is $900 for the full course or $450 for the upgrade course.

The first step towards securing Recognition is to submit a course enrolment. If you have any questions you are encouraged to ring the friendly MRWED staff on Freecall 1800 2 TRAIN (1800 287 246).
